  • Overview

Conquer a seemingly impenetrable fortress during a Mont Saint-Michel Day Trip from Paris by High-Speed Train!

Anyone who has visited Mont Saint-Michel knows that it’s a little bit out of the way. Previously, it took several hours to reach it from Paris. But, with Mont Saint-Michel Day Trip from Paris by High-Speed Train tickets, it can now be reached by a high-speed train and bus ride in less than 3 hours! And, that’s what makes this day trip one of the smartest things to do in Paris!

Upon arrival, you’ll be treated to a survey of Mont Saint-Michel’s tidal basin by a local naturalist. Your Paris day trip is precisely scheduled so that you will arrive at low tide, making it far easier to reach this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the wetlands around the fortified town and enjoy a live demonstration of how to escape quicksand. You know, just in case you fall in. The rising waters in the tidal basin have helped defend the town from numerous sieges over the centuries. So, you better get past the fortified city walls before you’re up to your neck in H2O!

Once inside the safety of this island fortress, you’ll be led on a guided, 45-minute tour of the town’s ancient streets and its second line of defense: The fortified city walls! You’ll learn about Mont Saint-Michel’s strategic importance over the millennia, why it was coveted by kings and popes, and how it survived rather unscathed during the 100 Years’ War!

Then, discover the inside of Mont Saint-Michel’s famed abbey. A pilgrimage site for religious devotees, this abbey also had a darker side. Check out the human hamster wheel, operated by convicts arrested during the French Revolution. The abbey depended heavily on this crude device, which served as a human-powered lift for necessary goods. Finally, climb to the top of the highest tower in the abbey for magnificent, 360° views of the beautiful landscape surrounding the island. If you want to visit the fortress and return to the city in the same day, then this Mont Saint-Michel day trip is what to do in Paris!
