Board the bus at the scheduled time from the meeting point and set off towards the Normandy highway. After about two hours on the road, the bus will make its first stop in the city of Rouen. Explore the historic district on a guided walking tour boasting the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral, the Gros Horloge (an astronomical clock and a famous landmark), the half-timbered houses and the quaint charming streets that make you feel like you’ve gone back in time. Rouen has been an inspiration for many Impressionists, including Claude Monet who depicted the Cathedral in a series of paintings.
In the afternoon, enjoy an hour-long drive to Honfleur. During the drive, keep a look out for the incredible Pont de Normandie suspension bridge that spans the Seine estuary. Explore the picturesque streets and vibrant houses of the town of Honfleur on your own. Enjoy lunch in one of Honfleur's restaurants on a terrace with a view of the sea- a lovely experience!
Set off again along the Norman coastline. Explore the famous Normandy beaches where the Allies landed on June 6, 1944. The tour gives you a keen insight into World War II history. The American Cemetery in Colleville sur Mer, located near Omaha Beach, is a place for quiet reflection. Commemorating the Battle of Normandy, the cemetery is notable for its size, 70 hectares, and its rows of white marble tombstones.
The next stop is the Arromanches beach, where you can observe traces of the pontoons used for supporting the artificial harbor, (built in England and towed to this site for the landings) despite the wear and tear inflicted by the sea.Your first day ends at the Caen Novotel (or a similar hotel) where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast buffet before starting your day with an excursion to Saint-Malo (located about 170 km from Caen). Explore the picturesque and historical port town of Saint-Malo and enjoy a tour of its city walls, Château, Saint-Malo Cathedral and Fort National. The fortified city of Saint-Malo was once infamous for its privateers. Explore its historical heritage with a guide and then have lunch in this Breton town at a restaurant of your choosing.
Enjoy a delightful introduction to Mont Saint-Michel, perched on a rocky peak and surrounded by a beautiful bay. Hike to the top of the village by taking the Grande Rue, where most of the shops, museums and traditional medieval houses can be found. See the Benedectine abbey that dates back to the 8th century.
Discover the Mont Saint-Michel abbey with a guide and admire the incredible Gothic structure featuring a cloister and a garden with a panoramic view of the sea. Explore the bustling streets, admire the incredible vista of the bay as you walk down along the city walls or sample some delicious crêpes.
The bus leaves for Angers around 4:30 pm. After a ride of about three hours, you will get off at the Angers Centre (or a similar hotel) where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Energize yourself with a wholesome breakfast before setting off to the spectacular Loire Valley for the day.
Your first stop for the day is the Château de Langeais, a well-preserved fortified castle. Explore the interior of the château, where depictions of everyday life in the medieval era using highly realistic wax figures will give you a glimpse of times gone by. Enjoy interesting commentary by your knowledgeable guide during the tour.
Take a break from sightseeing and enjoy lunch in Amboise at a restaurant of your choosing. Your guide will point out some dining options located near Château d’Amboise.
The early afternoon will be spent touring Château du Clos Lucé, the official residence of Leonardo da Vinci between 1516 and 1519. Just a ten-minute walk from Château d’Amboise, the beautiful castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Learn about the private life of this Renaissance genius on a guided tour and bear witness to the luxurious and elegant French lifestyle.
The next stop on the tour is Château de Villandry, about sixty kilometers from Amboise. Spend time in this breathtaking garden and explore it with your guide. Magnificent paths lined by linden trees separate the various parts of the garden with its many terraces and themes. The lush vegetation and the riot of colours are an absolute delight to the senses.
Before dining and settling in for the evening at the Mercure Tours Nord (or a similar hotel), you will go on a guided tour of the historic district of Tours. Located 30 minutes from Villandry, Tours will charm you with its old city center and lovely half-timbered houses.
The last day is reserved for a tour of the most beautiful Châteaux of the Loire Valley. Kickstart your day with a hearty breakfast in Tours.
Head to Château de Chenonceau, just 20 kilometers from Amboise. This Renaissance masterpiece that spans the Cher River is straight out of a fairytale and has played a significant role in French history. Also known as the "Château des Dames", it was refurbished time and again by a number of famous women from French history (including Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de' Medici). Admire the lavishly appointed rooms that embody the refined French way of life in the castle's heydays.
Next, enjoy a 45-minute drive to the Château de Cheverny, a 17th-century aristocratic estate, which is still inhabited by descendants of the original family. An interesting fact about this castle is that it appears to be untouched by the Renaissance. The 17th century chateau is built in pure Louis XIII classical style with a rigid symmetry. Enjoy a glimpse into the living history of the generations, soak in its intimate charms and admire its priceless paintings and furnishings. Lunch will be served at the Saint Hubert Cour Cheverny (drinks not included). Click here for the menu
