You will be picked up from your hotel in Paris at 1730h (5:30pm) in an air-conditioned minivan for a delightful evening at the Palace of Vaux-Le-Vicomte.
This French Baroque palace located in Maincy was built between 1658 and 1661 by Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances in the court of Louis XIV. The palace was the tragic setting for the downfall of Fouquet, who was imprisoned for life on false charges of embezzlement.
The imposing palace has a beautiful garden that is carved out of the dense surrounding woods. It also has water basins and canals contained in stone curbs, fountains and gravel walks.
Begin with a visit to the Carriage Museum that houses a rare collection of horse- drawn carriages of the 18th and 19th centuries. Then have dinner at the Les Charmilles restaurant, located in a wing of the outbuildings of the palace.
Later in the evening, watch the palace and the gardens glimmer with the light of over 2000 candles – a breathtakingly beautiful sight. Take an audio-guided tour of the palace and learn more about it.
Every Saturday until October 6 fireworks take place in the gardens of Vaux le Vicomte. In case of bad weather fireworks could be cancelled.
After the tour, you shall be dropped back to your hotel around 0030h (12:30) Midnight.
